Back in 2007
In 2007 this address was the Dear FAQs page.
Got questions about Dear? Same, we love questions. This is our big, friendly baby tee FAQ: what Dear is, how a baby tee should fit, sizing, fabric and care, the waitlist, and what’s coming next. If something isn’t answered here yet, it will be before the tee goes on sale, and waitlist members always hear first.
About Dear
What is Dear?
Dear is a playful, pink, Y2K-inspired clothing brand. Our first piece is a white micro-rib baby tee with a pink heart, a baby blue star and the “Dear” script logo, made to feel like your favorite shirt from a 2000s sleepover, just softer and made to last. We’re independent and launching in spring 2027.
Is Dear related to the original Dear line from 2007?
The Dear name has a history. There was an original Dear clothing line sold at Steve & Barry’s in 2007 and 2008. You can read the full, fact-checked story in our post on the original Dear line, 2007–2008. Today’s Dear is a fresh, independent relaunch with new designs.
What does Dear sell?
Right now, one thing we’re really proud of: the heart-and-star baby tee. It’s coming soon. We’ll only announce new pieces when they’re real and ready, on Drop News.
Baby tee fit and sizing
What is a baby tee?
A baby tee is a small, fitted T-shirt with short, snug sleeves and a shorter body that usually ends at or just above the natural waist. It was everywhere in the late 1990s and 2000s and it’s a key piece of the Y2K revival. See our Y2K glossary for more 2000s fashion terms.
How should a baby tee fit?
Close, but not tight. It should follow your shape without pulling across the chest or showing strain lines, the sleeves should sit on your upper arm without digging in, and the neckline should lie flat. With high-waisted bottoms, the hem should meet or slightly overlap the waistband.
Do baby tees run small?
Baby tees are small on purpose, so many people find they fit snugger than a regular T-shirt in the same size. That’s the look. If you want more room, size up.
Should I size up in a baby tee?
- Stay true to size for the classic fitted, cropped Y2K look.
- Size up if you want a relaxed fit, a little more length, or more room through the bust.
- Between sizes? Go by your bust and shoulder measurements first.
Where’s the Dear size chart?
We’ll publish exact measurements for every size before the first drop. Until then, our baby tee sizing and fit guide walks you through how to measure yourself and how length and stretch affect fit.
How do I measure myself for a baby tee?
Use a soft measuring tape. Measure your bust at the fullest part, keeping the tape level, and your natural waist at the narrowest part. Another easy trick: lay your favorite fitted tee flat, measure armpit to armpit and double it, then measure from the shoulder to the hem for length.
Will a baby tee show my stomach?
It can, a little, which is part of its charm. If you’d rather not, pair it with high-waisted jeans or skirts, layer a cami underneath, or size up. Our Lookbook has outfit ideas for every comfort level.
Fabric and care
What is the Dear baby tee made of?
It’s a soft, stretchy micro-rib knit. Micro-rib has fine vertical ribs that give the fabric stretch and a close, comfy fit. Final fabric details will be on the product page when the tee goes on sale.
How do I wash a baby tee so it doesn’t shrink?
- Wash cold, inside out, with similar colors.
- Skip bleach so the pink heart and baby blue star stay bright.
- Lay flat or hang to dry. Tumble drying is the fastest way to shrink a fitted tee.
- Cool iron on the reverse side if needed, never directly over the print.
Will the print fade?
Turning the tee inside out, washing cold and air-drying are the best ways to protect any printed design. Full care instructions will be on the label and the product page.
Styling
How do I style a baby tee?
Pair it with something relaxed or high-waisted: baggy jeans, cargos, a pleated mini or wide-leg trousers. Layer a shrug, a zip hoodie or a blazer over it when it’s cooler. Read how to style a baby tee for the full guide, or browse outfit formulas in the Dear Lookbook.
Is the baby tee only for summer?
Not at all. In colder months, layer it over a fitted long-sleeve, under a cardigan or with an open zip hoodie, the way the 2000s did it.
